This read-write enumerated integer selects which loop-prevention technique, Poison Reverse, Split Horizon, or none, RIP uses on this interface. An admin chooses Poison Reverse over plain Split Horizon when faster convergence and explicit route-down signaling are needed, or disables both only in unusual topologies where the interface can't form routing loops. For example, an admin troubleshooting slow RIP convergence after a link failure might switch this interface from splitHorizon(2) to poisonReverse(1) to speed up loop detection.
