An admin investigating a performance or data-integrity issue on an EISA memory-mapped device checks whether the memory is cached and, if so, whether it uses write-through or write-back caching. For example, a value of writeBackCached(3) on a shared memory window could explain stale-data symptoms if the device does not expect its memory to be cached at all.
