This UpToMaxAge value sets the number of seconds between link-state advertisement retransmissions for adjacencies on this interface, and is also used when retransmitting database description and link-state request packets. Setting it too low on a slow or high-latency link causes needless retransmissions before the original packet could plausibly have been acknowledged. An admin running OSPF over a satellite link would raise this interval well above the LAN default to account for the extra round-trip time.
