Description: The number of input datagrams for which this entity was not their final IP destination, as a result of which an attempt was made to find a route to forward them to that final destination. In entities which do not act as IP Gateways, this Counter32 will include only those packets which were Source-Routed via this entity, and the Source- Route option processing was successful.

What is csOrionVPNVRouterIpForwDatagrams?

This Counter64 counts datagrams received by the virtual router that were not destined for it locally, meaning the router had to look up a route and forward them onward. It is the core measure of how much transit forwarding load this particular VPN virtual router is carrying. A support engineer troubleshooting high CPU on one virtual router instance would check whether this counter is climbing far faster than csOrionVPNVRouterIpInReceives, indicating it is mostly relaying rather than terminating traffic.
