This read-only Counter32 counts received payload packets that were discarded rather than delivered, across all L2TP sessions on the device. A climbing discard count alongside otherwise healthy session states signals a data-plane problem, such as buffer exhaustion or sequencing errors, distinct from control-plane tunnel failures. If this counter rises sharply during a known period of link congestion, it corroborates that packet loss (not just latency) is affecting subscriber traffic.
