This INTEGER object identifies which application protocol (ftp, http, telnet, smtp, pop3, plug, nntp, ldap, lnotes, rsh, aol, cs, and others) a given proxy daemon entry handles, and the desc notes it is mandatory when creating an entry. An administrator sets this when standing up a new proxy daemon instance so the firewall knows which protocol-specific logic and policy table to associate with it. For example, creating a daemon entry and setting this object to ldap(8) would bind that daemon to handling LDAP directory-lookup traffic.
