Module: COSINE-ORION-MIB

OID (symbolic): COSINE-ORION-MIB::csOc3MediumLineType

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.3085.3.1.3.3.1.1.1.28

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: This object describes the line type for this interface. The line types are Short and Long Range Single Mode fiber or Multi-Mode fiber interfaces, and coax and UTP for electrical interfaces. The value sonetOther should be used when the Line Type is not one of the listed values.

What is csOc3MediumLineType?

csOc3MediumLineType is a read-only enumerated value describing the physical medium of this OC3 interface, such as short- or long-range single-mode fiber, multi-mode fiber, coax, or UTP for electrical variants, falling back to ocNOther when none of the listed types applies. Knowing the medium type matters because acceptable optical power ranges, maximum distances, and connector types differ significantly between single-mode, multi-mode, and electrical interfaces, so an admin sizing a fiber run or troubleshooting signal loss needs this to pick the right test equipment. For example, if csOc3MediumLineType reports ocNLongSingleMode, an admin planning a 40 km inter-site link knows the port supports that distance, whereas seeing ocNMultiMode would mean the run is limited to a few hundred meters at most.
