csOc3Loopback is a read-write setting that both reports and sets the current loopback state of this SONET/SDH interface: noLoop for normal operation, facilityLoop to send the received signal straight back out the corresponding transmitter, or terminalLoop for a loopback further into the equipment. Loopback testing on an OC3 port isolates whether a suspected fault lies in the local terminal equipment or out on the fiber facility itself, without needing to coordinate a test with the far end. For example, a technician suspecting the OC3 line card itself, rather than the fiber, sets csOc3Loopback to terminalLoop to loop the signal back inside the equipment and confirm the card can send and receive cleanly on its own.
