It gives an administrator a quick stability metric for the tunnel, since a healthy long-lived LSP should show very few transitions while a flapping one will accumulate them rapidly. A csMplsLspTransitions count climbing by several increments per hour would indicate the tunnel is flapping and needs root-cause investigation, such as an unstable underlying link.
