cmShelfMaster is a read-only integer identifying which SCM board within a shelf is currently acting as that shelf's master controller. An administrator reads it in multi-SCM shelves to know which specific controller board is responsible for that shelf's operations before performing maintenance on any SCM. For example, before pulling an SCM card for replacement, the operator checks cmShelfMaster to confirm that card isn't currently the active shelf master, which would disrupt the shelf if removed.
