cmMACMAC is a read-only octet string containing the actual MAC address of a host's Ethernet interface as learned by the bridge. An administrator reads this to identify exactly which device's traffic a given bridge-table entry represents, for instance when tracking down a rogue device on the network. For example, an operator investigating unusual traffic behind a subscriber's DSL line would read cmMACMAC to get the exact hardware address of the device generating it.
