hpSwitchABCConfigIpRipControl

Module: CONFIG-MIB

OID (symbolic): CONFIG-MIB::hpSwitchABCConfigIpRipControl

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.14.11.5.1.7.1.12.1.1.3

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: IP RIP control. If this feature is enabled then IP RIP packets will only be forwarded on ports, within its VLAN domain, that have heard RIPs before. If this feature is disabled then IP RIP packets seen by a given port will be forwarded to all ports within its VLAN domain.

What is hpSwitchABCConfigIpRipControl?

This read-write enumeration enables or disables IP RIP control for a VLAN; when enabled, RIP packets are only forwarded on ports within the VLAN that have previously heard RIP broadcasts, and when disabled, RIP packets are flooded to every port in the VLAN. Admins enable it to cut down on unnecessary RIP broadcast flooding to ports that don't run RIP. For example, an admin with a mostly-static-routed VLAN where only a couple of ports actually speak RIP would enable hpSwitchABCConfigIpRipControl to stop flooding RIP to the other ports.
