Module: COMTROL-ES8510-MIB

OID (symbolic): COMTROL-ES8510-MIB::stpPerPortCfgEdgePort

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2882.2.1.1.4.5.7.1.6

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: Present in implementations that support the identification of edge ports. All ports directly connected to end stations cannot create bridging loops in the network and can thus directly transition to forwarding, skipping the listening and learning stages.

What is stpPerPortCfgEdgePort?

This read-write setting marks a port as an edge port-one connected directly to an end station rather than another bridge-which lets it skip STP's listening and learning states and move straight to forwarding, since such ports cannot themselves create a bridging loop. An admin sets this true on access ports feeding servers or workstations to eliminate unnecessary startup delay. For example, setting true(1) on the port connected to a file server lets that server reach the network the instant the cable is plugged in, instead of waiting through STP's normal state transitions.
