stpForwardDelayTime

Module: COMTROL-ES8510-MIB

OID (symbolic): COMTROL-ES8510-MIB::stpForwardDelayTime

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2882.2.1.1.4.5.6

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Integer32

Access: read-write

Description: The number of seconds a port waits before changing from its Spanning-Tree Protocol learning and listening states to the forwarding state. Enter a number 4 through 30. Note:2*(Forward Delay Time-1) should be greater than or equal to the Max Age. The Max Age should be greater than or equal to 2*(Hello Time + 1). This item can't be modified, if stpStatus was disabled.

What is stpForwardDelayTime?

This read-write value, from 4 to 30 seconds, sets how long a port spends in the listening and learning states before Spanning Tree lets it start forwarding traffic. An admin lowers this value to speed up how quickly a port becomes usable after a topology change, at the cost of a higher risk of a transient loop during convergence. For example, reducing Forward Delay toward the low end of its range on a small, simple network gets a recovering uplink back into service noticeably faster than leaving it at the higher default.
