This read-write setting enables or disables MAC-based port security on a specific port, restricting that port to only the MAC addresses explicitly allowed through portSecurityMac entries. An admin enables this on ports in physically exposed or public locations to prevent unauthorized devices from simply plugging in and getting network access. For example, enabling port security on a wall jack in a public lobby blocks any device whose MAC address isn't on the allowed list from communicating on the network through that jack.
