This read-only integer identifies which MST instance a live per-port status row describes, distinguishing it from the port's status under other instances or the CIST. An admin uses it to pinpoint exactly which instance's live role and state are being reported alongside it. For example, an instance ID of 1 on a status row tells the admin the role and forwarding state shown apply to this port specifically within MST instance 1.
