This counter tracks the cumulative number of VMS logical-name translations performed on the system, i.e. lookups that resolve a symbolic logical name to its actual device or file specification. A steadily climbing rate can point to processes or scripts that repeatedly re-resolve the same logical names instead of caching results, adding CPU overhead to routine I/O. For example, a batch job that opens hundreds of files via a shared logical name like SYS$LOGIN each run will drive this counter up noticeably during that job's execution window.
