This counter counts how many times an entire process working set was swapped back into memory from the swap file. This is a heavier operation than ordinary paging, so a high or rising inswap count tells an admin that whole processes are being suspended and later reactivated, typically because of severe memory contention. For example, if a batch of previously-idle processes all resume work at once and this counter jumps, it confirms those processes had been fully swapped out rather than merely losing individual pages.
