What is vmsIoFileOpen?
This counter represents the total number of file-open operations executed on the VMS system since counting began. An admin watching this can spot unusual spikes tied to a runaway process opening files in a loop, which can exhaust the system's open-file quota. For example, if this counter jumps sharply right after a nightly backup job starts, that's the expected signature of the backup utility opening each file on disk in turn.
