Because this is gathered alongside cluster locking metrics, an admin can correlate memory shortages with any simultaneous rise in cluster lock traffic caused by processes competing for resources. For example, a shrinking free list here at the same time the cluster's local lock-request count spikes might suggest memory-constrained processes are contending more heavily for locked resources.
