Module: COMPEX-IN3000
OID (symbolic): COMPEX-IN3000::inUnknownTypes
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.426.1.9.1
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Description: Number of ICMP packets received with unknown type fields.
What is inUnknownTypes?
This counter tallies ICMP packets received by the IN3000 whose type field did not match any ICMP message type the firmware recognizes. A rising count can indicate either a malformed or malicious ICMP packet arriving at the device, or a newer ICMP extension the firmware predates. An admin seeing inUnknownTypes increase during a security investigation would treat it as a possible sign of ICMP-based probing traffic aimed at the device.
