An admin would trigger this test after noticing time-related anomalies, such as incorrect timestamps in logs, to determine whether the real-time clock hardware itself is faulty. Setting dallasTest to runTest(3) and then reading back testFailed(2) would tell an admin the clock chip needs hardware replacement.
