OID (symbolic): COMPEX-IN3000::bufferPoolEmpty

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.426.1.9.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter

Description: Number of times an ICMP packet was received and there were not enough available buffers.

What is bufferPoolEmpty?

This counter tallies how many times an ICMP packet arrived at the IN3000 but there were not enough available buffers to hold it, causing the packet to be dropped. A rising count suggests the device's buffer pool is undersized for the current volume of ICMP traffic it is receiving, such as a burst of pings. An admin seeing this counter climb during a network scan or ping flood would recognize the device is buffer-starved rather than simply slow.
