An administrator uses this so that a problem detected at the remote site, such as the peer losing its receive signal, can still drive a physical alert at the near end. For example, mapping a remote-terminal-not-responding condition to a relay lets on-site staff at the near end get an audible warning even when the fault is actually at the far end of the microwave hop.
