An operator uses this cumulative count as a baseline reference when comparing against the interval-based wvLinkCurrentESs and wvLinkIntervalESs counters to understand where in the link's uptime the errors actually occurred. For example, a large wvLinkESs total with most of it concentrated shortly after start-up would point to an initial alignment or sync issue rather than an ongoing problem.
