rlPolicyMeterDepth

Module: CISCOSB-POLICY-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCOSB-POLICY-MIB::rlPolicyMeterDepth

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.6.1.101.59.4.1.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: Indicates how many meters can be chained in succession (ie. so that if the first meter fails, the second can be examined). The final meter in a sequence is always 'always-conform', so if the value of this parameter is 2, the platform that supports a single meter and then a second marking/action for meter failure.

What is rlPolicyMeterDepth?

This read-only object indicates how many meters can be chained in succession for a single rule, where the final meter in any chain is always an always-conform meter, so a value of 2 means the platform supports one real metering stage plus a fallback marking/action for traffic that fails it. An admin uses this to understand how sophisticated a multi-tier metering scheme (e.g. committed rate plus a fallback for excess traffic) can be on this platform. For example, an admin wanting to apply one action to in-profile traffic and a different, harsher action to out-of-profile traffic would need this depth to be at least 2 to chain two meters together.
