This read-only integer (again 'hopes' for hops in the source text) reports the maximum number of hops an MST BPDU is allowed to travel within this bridge's MST region. An admin reviews it to understand the configured diameter limit of the MST region for troubleshooting reachability of instance information at the region's edges. For example, an admin seeing STP information fail to reach a switch deep in a large region might check whether this max-hop value is too low for the region's actual size.
