Module: CISCOSB-BRIDGEMIBOBJECTS-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCOSB-BRIDGEMIBOBJECTS-MIB::rldot1dStpVlanPortPathCost

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.6.1.101.57.2.7.1.6

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: The contribution of this port to the path cost of paths towards the spanning tree root which include this port. 802.1D-1990 recommends that the default value of this parameter be in inverse proportion to the speed of the attached LAN.

What is rldot1dStpVlanPortPathCost?

This read-write INTEGER (1-65535) sets this port's contribution to the total path cost toward the Spanning Tree root for paths that include this port within a given VLAN, with 802.1D-1990 recommending a default inversely proportional to the attached LAN's speed. An admin cares because manually tuning path cost lets an admin steer which of several redundant links STP prefers as the active path. For example, an admin who wants a 10Gbps uplink preferred over a 1Gbps backup link on a given VLAN would set a lower path cost value on the 10Gbps port's entry than on the backup's.
