rlTacacsServerInetConnectionType
Module: CISCOSB-AAA
OID (symbolic): CISCOSB-AAA::rlTacacsServerInetConnectionType
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.6.1.101.79.40.9.1.4
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: RlTacacsConnectionType
Access: read-write
Description: Specifies TCP connection type between device and TACACS+ server. Either a single open connection between device and server (rlTacacsSingleConnection), or open/close connection per communication session (rlTacacsPerSessionConnection).
What is rlTacacsServerInetConnectionType?
This read-write RlTacacsConnectionType chooses whether the switch keeps a single persistent TCP connection open to this TACACS+ server (rlTacacsSingleConnection) or opens and closes a new connection for every authentication session (rlTacacsPerSessionConnection). An admin cares because a persistent connection reduces authentication latency under heavy login traffic but ties up a server-side socket continuously, while per-session connections use fewer idle resources at the cost of extra connection setup time per login. For example, an admin on a switch handling frequent 802.1x re-authentications might choose the single persistent connection mode to avoid repeated TCP handshake delays.
