t38T30ECM
Module: CISCO-WAN-T38-FAXRELAY-MIB
OID (symbolic): CISCO-WAN-T38-FAXRELAY-MIB::t38T30ECM
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.351.150.19.1.1.1.1.15
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: INTEGER
Access: read-write
Description: This object is used to enable/disable T.30 Error Correcting Mode(ECM). ECM is a feature implemented by many new fax devices which improves image quality and page compression capabilities through a reliable image data transmission protocol -- ECM. If fax calls are failing due to high packet loss then disabling T.30 ECM may improve the success rate.
What is t38T30ECM?
This read-write enumeration (enabled or disabled) turns Error Correcting Mode on or off for T.30 fax sessions relayed through T.38, a feature many modern fax machines use to improve image quality and compression via reliable retransmission. An admin sometimes disables it specifically when fax calls are failing on a link with high packet loss, since ECM's own retransmission behavior can interact poorly with an already-lossy path. For example, an admin seeing repeated fax failures on a congested WAN circuit disables t38T30ECM to test whether removing ECM's retransmission overhead improves fax completion rates.
