This object controls whether Voice Activity Detection is applied on the channel upon detection of silence, and the MIB notes that for algorithms lacking a VAD standard, Cisco-proprietary VAD with the generic SID packet from I.366.2 can be used, while VAD must be off when the codec is clear channel. An administrator enables VAD to save bandwidth during silent periods of a call, but must remember to disable it when the connection is configured for clear-channel transport, since the MIB explicitly disallows VAD in that case. For example, an administrator switching a connection's codec to clearChannel would also need to set this object to false, since the MIB states VAD has to be off for that codec.
