cwnMessageInterval
Module: CISCO-WAN-NCDP-MIB
OID (symbolic): CISCO-WAN-NCDP-MIB::cwnMessageInterval
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.223.1.1.4
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: Integer32
Access: read-write
Description: The interval at which NCDP configuration PDUs ('Hellos') are to be generated.
The message interval directly affects the convergence time of the NCDP algorithm. Convergence time is equal to the max network diameter * message interval + transmission delays + the time a configuration PDU is spent being processed in each device. Thus if transmission delays and processing delays are both close to 0, the convergence time is approximately ( max network diameter * message interval ) milliseconds.
This object is only used if the distribution method is 'ncdp'.
What is cwnMessageInterval?
This read-write Integer32, in milliseconds and ranging 75 to 60000, sets how often NCDP configuration ('Hello') PDUs are generated, and per the description directly affects convergence time, which equals max network diameter times message interval plus transmission delays plus per-device processing time. An admin tunes this to balance how quickly the NCDP clock tree converges after a topology change against the control-plane overhead of frequent Hello messages. Shortening this interval on a large NCDP network would speed convergence but increase the volume of Hello traffic every device must process.
Examples
Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.223.1.1.4 snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> CISCO-WAN-NCDP-MIB::cwnMessageInterval
Get a specific instance (index 1):
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.223.1.1.4.1 snmpget -v2c -c public <target> CISCO-WAN-NCDP-MIB::cwnMessageInterval.1
Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):
snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.223.1.1.4.1 i <value>
SNMPv3 example:
snmpget -v3 -l authPriv -u snmpv3-user -a SHA -A "AuthPassword1" -x AES -X "PrivPassword1" <target> cwnMessageInterval.1
