cwnChangeReason

Module: CISCO-WAN-NCDP-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-WAN-NCDP-MIB::cwnChangeReason

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.223.1.1.6

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: The reason for the most recent change of a source of network clock, as indicated by the change in the value of 'ciscoWanChangeTimeStamp'.

'none' indicates that the source of network clock has not changed.

'lossOfLock' indicates that the clock source was changed because the network clocking hardware lost lock on the previous network clock source.

'lossOfActivity' indicates that the clock source was changed because the network clocking hardware detected a loss of activity on the previous network clock source.

'ncdpRestructure' indicates that the NCDP entity has changed the clock source as a result of a network-wide network clock distribution tree restructuring process.

When the reason for a clock switchover is none of the above, the value of this object is 'other'.

What is cwnChangeReason?

This read-only INTEGER reports the reason for the most recent change of network clock source, with values including other(1), none(2), lossOfLock(3), lossOfActivity(4), and ncdpRestructure(5), where none indicates the source hasn't changed, lossOfLock indicates the clocking hardware lost lock on the previous source, and the description notes this correlates with ciscoWanChangeTimeStamp. An admin uses this to understand why a clock source switch happened, distinguishing a hardware-level lock failure from a protocol-driven topology restructure. Seeing lossOfLock(3) repeatedly on the same source would point an admin toward a failing local clocking component rather than a network-wide NCDP event.
