Description: The number of occurrences of configuration revision number errors for this management domain. A configuration revision number error occurs when a device receives a VTP advertisement for which:
- the advertisement's Configuration Revision Number is the same as the current locally-held value, and
- the advertisement's digest value is different from the current locally-held value.
What is vtpConfigRevNumberErrors?
This read-only Counter32 object counts how many times this device has detected a VTP configuration revision number error in a management domain, which happens when an incoming advertisement claims the same revision number as the local value but carries a different digest, signaling a database mismatch that the revision number alone didn't catch. An administrator treats a rising count here as a red flag that something in the VTP domain has an inconsistent VLAN database despite matching revision numbers, often indicating a configuration conflict between two VTP servers. For example, two switches independently configured as VTP servers with the same starting revision number but different VLAN sets would trigger vtpConfigRevNumberErrors on devices receiving advertisements from both.
