Module: CISCO-SRP-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-SRP-MIB::srpRingIntRxErrorsGiantPackets

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.60.4.2.1.5

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: PerfIntervalCount64

Access: read-only

Description: The counter associated with the interval number of giant packets, received from the Layer 1 Physical medium in a particular 15-minute interval in the past 24 hours.

What is srpRingIntRxErrorsGiantPackets?

This 64-bit counter tallies frames arriving off the ring fiber that are larger than the maximum 9216-octet MTU the MIB defines as the 'giant' packet threshold, over one specific completed 15-minute bucket from the rolling 24-hour history. Oversized frames arriving from the ring usually trace back to a jumbo-frame MTU mismatch on some other node or a corrupted length field, and SRP discards them outright since they exceed what the ring can carry, so a rise here often correlates with a recent MTU change on an attached device elsewhere on the ring. If a neighboring device was just reconfigured for 9600-byte jumbo frames without updating this ring's MTU policy, this counter would start climbing as those oversized frames arrive and get discarded.
