This object is the IPS mode an admin has explicitly requested for this node, one of noRequest, manualSwitch, or forcedSwitch, which can influence the node's active IPS mode. This is how an admin manually forces a protection switch for planned maintenance on this specific node, forcedSwitch, rather than waiting for an actual fault, letting them safely take down a segment for work while traffic is deliberately rerouted. Setting this to forcedSwitch before physically disconnecting a fiber for planned maintenance ensures traffic wraps away from this node in a controlled way rather than the ring reacting to an unplanned link-down event.
