This 64-bit counter tallies giant packets (larger than the 9216-octet maximum packet size) received from the physical SRP ring fiber, counted over the current, still-running 15-minute window. Because SRP has a hard upper bound on frame size, any packet exceeding it gets discarded here rather than forwarded, so a nonzero count is a direct sign that some device attached to (or transiting) the ring is sending oversized frames that violate the ring's MTU. If a video-surveillance encoder on the ring was just switched to send 9500-byte jumbo frames, this counter would start incrementing for every one of its frames.
