This object is the peer's DNS name if one was received embedded in the INIT or INIT-ACK chunk at setup time, otherwise a meaningless NULL value. When populated, this saves the admin from reverse-mapping the peer's IP address to identify which remote signaling point a given association belongs to, especially useful in a mesh of SIGTRAN links to several MGCs. A value like mgc-west.example.net immediately tells the admin which specific media gateway controller this association terminates on, without cross-referencing an IP-to-hostname table.
