This counter tracks the total number of remote-access session establishment attempts that failed for any reason since the device was last rebooted, rolling up the more granular failure counters found elsewhere in this MIB. An admin watching a sudden jump in this device-wide total, without a corresponding rise in successful sessions, gets an early signal that something broad - like an expired certificate or a downed RADIUS server - is blocking connections across the board. A jump from a baseline of a few dozen failures per day to several hundred in an hour would justify immediately checking authentication-server health.
