This object reports how many distinct user groups currently have at least one member with an active remote-access session, a snapshot of which administrative population segments are actually in active use right now rather than simply configured. It matters for validating that access policies are being exercised as expected; an admin who provisioned ten department groups but sees only three represented here during business hours might investigate whether the other seven groups' remote-access configurations are actually working. Seeing this number unexpectedly low compared to the number of configured groups would prompt checking whether some group's VPN policy is silently failing to let its members connect.
