cospfLsdbChecksum

Module: CISCO-OSPF-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-OSPF-MIB::cospfLsdbChecksum

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.99.3.1.4

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Integer32

Access: read-only

Description: This field is the checksum of the complete contents of the advertisement, excepting the age field. The age field is excepted so that an advertisement's age can be incremented without updating the checksum. The checksum used is the same that is used for ISO connectionless datagrams; it is commonly referred to as the Fletcher checksum.

What is cospfLsdbChecksum?

This object reports the Fletcher checksum computed over the full contents of a specific link-state advertisement, deliberately excluding the age field so the checksum stays constant as the LSA simply ages without any real content change. It matters as a data-integrity check; an admin comparing this checksum for supposedly identical copies of the same LSA held by different routers can immediately detect corruption or divergence without manually comparing the full LSA payload byte for byte. Two routers reporting different checksums for what should be the same LSA, same sequence number, would indicate database corruption on one of them, worth investigating before it causes routing errors.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.99.3.1.4
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> CISCO-OSPF-MIB::cospfLsdbChecksum

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.99.3.1.4.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> CISCO-OSPF-MIB::cospfLsdbChecksum.1
