cospfAreaNssaTranslatorState

Module: CISCO-OSPF-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-OSPF-MIB::cospfAreaNssaTranslatorState

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.99.2.1.4

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: Indicates if and how an NSSA Border router is performing NSSA translation of type-7 LSAs into type-5 LSAs. When this object set to enabled, the NSSA Border router's cospfAreaNssaExtTranslatorRole has been set to always. When this object is set to elected, a candidate NSSA Border router is Translating type-7 LSAs into type-5. When this object is set to disabled, a candidate NSSA Border router is NOT translating type-7 LSAs into type-5.

What is cospfAreaNssaTranslatorState?

This object reports the actual current translation state of an NSSA border router, distinguishing enabled, meaning this router is set to always translate, elected, meaning this router is a candidate that has currently won the translator election, or disabled, meaning a candidate router that is not currently translating. It matters because it is the real-time answer to whether this specific router is currently doing type-7-to-type-5 translation, which directly affects whether external routes from this NSSA are actually being propagated beyond the area right now. An admin seeing this show disabled on a router they expected to be actively translating should check whether another candidate router won the election instead, which would be the normal explanation rather than a fault.
