cmExtJackState

Module: CISCO-MAU-EXT-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-MAU-EXT-MIB::cmExtJackState

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.398.1.1.1.1.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: Indicates the state of a particular jack.

Within a particular MAU, setting this to 'active' on a jack which is not the current active jack will deactivate the current active jack.

Setting the current active jack to 'active' has no effect.

A value of inactive(2) indicates that the jack is currently deactiveated. Setting this to 'inactive' has no effect. Of all the jacks connected to a MAU, at least one must be active at all times.

What is cmExtJackState?

A read-write control indicating and setting which physical jack on a MAU is currently active; activating one jack automatically deactivates the previously active one.

Start monitoring Cisco switch/router with Ethernet interfaces (MAU extensions) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the CISCO-MAU-EXT-MIB::cmExtJackState OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any Cisco switch/router with Ethernet interfaces (MAU extensions) from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a Cisco switch/router with Ethernet interface (MAU extensions) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type cmExtJackState into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. Indicates the state of a particular jack. Within a particular MAU, setting this to 'active' on a jack which is not the current active jack will deactivate the current active jack. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value changes unexpectedly, since which jack should be active depends on your cabling and an unplanned change often indicates a fault or manual intervention. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
