Module: CISCO-IETF-VRRP-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-IETF-VRRP-MIB::cVrrpStatisticsPriZeroPktsRcvd

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.999.2.5.1.5

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter32

Access: read-only

Description: The total number of VRRP packets received by the virtual router with a priority of '0'.

Discontinuities in the value of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the management system, and at other times as indicated by the value of the corresponding instance of cVrrpStatisticsDiscontinuityTime.

What is cVrrpStatisticsPriZeroPktsRcvd?

This counts VRRP advertisements this router received where the sender's priority was explicitly 0, the special value a master sends specifically to signal it's voluntarily relinquishing the master role so a backup should take over immediately. A backup router seeing this counter increment should correspondingly show a near-simultaneous transition to master in cVrrpStatisticsBecomeMaster, confirming the handoff was a clean, intentional one rather than the master silently disappearing. If this counter shows an increment but no master transition followed on this router, that inconsistency itself is worth investigating as a potential VRRP state machine problem.
