cVrrpStatisticsPacketLengthErrors

Module: CISCO-IETF-VRRP-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-IETF-VRRP-MIB::cVrrpStatisticsPacketLengthErrors

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.999.2.5.1.11

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter32

Access: read-only

Description: The total number of packets received with a packet length less than the length of the VRRP header.

Discontinuities in the value of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the management system, and at other times as indicated by the value of the corresponding instance of cVrrpStatisticsDiscontinuityTime.

What is cVrrpStatisticsPacketLengthErrors?

This counts received packets that were too short to even contain a complete VRRP header, a basic malformed-packet condition distinct from a valid-but-mismatched header, which the other error counters would catch instead. It's typically indicative of either packet corruption/truncation somewhere on the path, or a deliberately malformed packet sent to probe or disrupt the VRRP implementation, rather than a normal configuration issue between two correctly-speaking VRRP routers. This counter climbing in isolation, with all other VRRP error counters staying flat, points specifically at a transport-layer truncation issue rather than anything about VRRP configuration itself.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.999.2.5.1.11
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> CISCO-IETF-VRRP-MIB::cVrrpStatisticsPacketLengthErrors

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.999.2.5.1.11.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> CISCO-IETF-VRRP-MIB::cVrrpStatisticsPacketLengthErrors.1

SNMPv3 example:

snmpget -v3 -l authPriv -u snmpv3-user -a SHA -A "AuthPassword1" -x AES -X "PrivPassword1" <target> cVrrpStatisticsPacketLengthErrors.1
