cVrrpOperationsState

Module: CISCO-IETF-VRRP-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-IETF-VRRP-MIB::cVrrpOperationsState

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.999.1.7.1.4

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: The current state of the virtual router. This object has three defined values:

- `initialize', which indicates that the virtual router is waiting for a startup event.

- `backup', which indicates that the virtual router is monitoring the availability of the master router.

- `master', which indicates that the virtual router is forwarding packets for IP addresses that are associated with this router.

What is cVrrpOperationsState?

This is the live current state of this specific virtual router instance - waiting to start (initialize), actively monitoring the master while ready to take over (backup), or actively forwarding traffic for the protected addresses (master) - the primary object to poll for real-time VRRP health. It's the single most important VRRP object for confirming exactly one router in a redundancy group is master at any given time, since seeing two routers in the same VRRP group both reporting master simultaneously (a split-brain condition) indicates a serious network partition or misconfiguration. A router unexpectedly stuck in initialize rather than transitioning to backup or master typically points to a problem with the underlying interface or VRRP configuration preventing it from even joining the election.
