Type: INTEGER
Access: read-create
Description: Indicate the mode of VLAN handling between the port associated to the VC and the VC encapsulation itself.
- 'other' indicate operation that is not defined by this MIB.
- 'portBased' indicates that the forwarder will forward packets between the port and the PW independent of their structure.
- 'noChange' indicates that the VC contains the original user VLAN, as specified in cpwVcEnetPortVlan.
- 'changeVlan' indicates that the VLAN field on the VC may be different than the VLAN field on the user's port.
- 'removeVlan' indicates that the encapsulation on the VC does not include the original VLAN field. Note that PRI bits transparency is lost in this case.
- 'addVlan' indicate that a VLAN field will be added on the PSN bound direction. cpwVcEnetPwVlan indicate the value that will be added.
- 'removeVlan', 'addVlan' and 'changeVlan' implementation is not required.
What is cpwVcEnetVlanMode?
This indicates the mode of VLAN handling between the port associated to the VC and the VC encapsulation itself, with defined values including other, portBased, noChange, changeVlan, addVlan, and removeVlan. It determines exactly how VLAN tags get manipulated as a frame crosses between the local Ethernet port and its pseudowire -- portBased ignores VLAN tagging and forwards everything on the port to one VC, while the other modes each handle preserving, swapping, pushing, or stripping a tag differently -- so picking the wrong mode is a common cause of a pseudowire that comes up but delivers frames the far end's VLAN-aware equipment silently drops. For example, setting this to removeVlan(5) on a VC meant to carry untagged traffic to a customer strips the provider's VLAN tag before handoff, whereas leaving it at noChange(2) by mistake would deliver still-tagged frames to a device expecting untagged Ethernet.
