ccarStatSwitchedBytesOverflow

Module: CISCO-CAR-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-CAR-MIB::ccarStatSwitchedBytesOverflow

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.113.1.2.1.1.7

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter

Access: read-only

Description: The high-word of the counter of bytes permitted by this interface.

NOTE: The object ccarStatSwitchedBytes contains the lower 32 bits of the switched byte counts. If the number of switched bytes is larger than what can be stored in a 32 bit value, then the high word value is stored in this object. As such SNMP Manager applications should combine this object along with the ccarStatSwitchedBytes object to come up with the 64-bit value.

SNMP v2c or v3 Manager can use the ccarStatHCSwitchedBytes object directly (which is a 64-bit object).

What is ccarStatSwitchedBytesOverflow?

This read-only counter holds the high-word of the count of bytes permitted by this interface, meant to be combined with ccarStatSwitchedBytes for a full 64-bit total once the byte count exceeds 32 bits. Like its packet-count counterpart, this high-word only matters once ccarStatSwitchedBytes itself has wrapped past 32 bits, about 4.3 GB of permitted traffic, and it exists specifically because CAR predates 64-bit SNMP counters, requiring manual combination of the two 32-bit values by the polling manager. A high-bandwidth interface passing tens of gigabytes of conforming traffic per day would wrap ccarStatSwitchedBytes multiple times daily, making this overflow object essential for computing an accurate daily total.
