ccarConfigExtLimit

Module: CISCO-CAR-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-CAR-MIB::ccarConfigExtLimit

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.113.1.1.1.1.7

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: The extended burst limit. The amount of traffic, in bytes, in excess of the burst limit which may be conditionnally permitted by the rate limit. The probability that the traffic is not permitted increases as the received burst increases.

P(not permitted) = (BurstRate - ConfLimit) / (ConfLimitExt - ConfLimit).

What is ccarConfigExtLimit?

This read-only value holds the extended burst limit, described as an amount of traffic, in bytes, in excess of the burst limit that may be conditionally permitted, with the probability of non-permission rising as the received burst increases according to the formula given in the description. This sets the outer boundary for CAR's probabilistic early-drop behavior: traffic beyond ccarConfigLimit but under this extended limit has an increasing chance of being dropped the closer the burst gets to this ceiling, a deliberate congestion-avoidance technique rather than a hard cutoff. A burst reaching exactly the midpoint between ccarConfigLimit and this extended limit would have roughly a 50 percent chance of being dropped under that formula, rather than being definitively conforming or definitively filtered.
