cienaCesMacScanAttrMac

Module: CIENA-CES-MAC-MIB

OID (symbolic): CIENA-CES-MAC-MIB::cienaCesMacScanAttrMac

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1271.2.1.26.1.1.1.3

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: MacAddress

Access: read-write

Description: The MAC and mask attributes allow the user to construct MAC scan table entries that match all or part of the specified MAC and mask attributes. The MAC scan table will only contain entries that have bits set, matching the specified MAC address and mask. This will allow the user to specify that certain bits in the MAC address must be 1's or 0's.

A mask of ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff will be implied only when the specified MAC address will be included in the MAC table.

A MAC attribute of 00:00:00:00:00:00 allowing all MACs to be included in the table (provided the other attributes match allowing the table entry to be returned).

What is cienaCesMacScanAttrMac?

This lets an admin specify a MAC address pattern, paired with cienaCesMacScanAttrMask, to filter the scan table down to entries matching specific bits of a MAC address, rather than requiring an exact full-address match. This is powerful for finding all devices from a particular vendor, matching just the OUI portion of the MAC, or all entries in a specific range, depending on which bits the mask covers. For example, setting the MAC to 00:1A:2B:00:00:00 with a mask covering only the first three octets would surface every learned MAC address from that OUI regardless of the host-specific remaining bits.
